Soledotun Titilope Abdulkarim-Yusuf is a distinguished Registered Town Planner with over 25 years of experience shaping urban landscapes and empowering communities. Beyond her expertise in planning, logistics, and transport, she is a committed humanitarian, (currently the Membership Chairperson of Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club , and Global Service Team Coordinator of Lions District 404-A3 Nigeria), and entrepreneur, founder of the Child Boy Foundation, and a leader dedicated to inspiring meaningful change. In this interview, she spoke with Blessing Umebali, Publisher, Brand Matters Magazine about her journey, vision, and insights.
Can you tell us about your journey into urban planning and public service?
The journey began in the shipping industry, where a strong foundation in logistics and operations was developed. Over time, a desire to contribute more directly to society led to the civil service. Joining the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development provided the opportunity to combine skills with a passion for creating functional, sustainable cities.
You have received numerous awards for your work. What do they mean to you?
Being recognized as an Outstanding Professional Woman (Town Planner) by CED Magazine, listed among the 100 Successful Women in Construction 2021, and receiving an Award of Excellence from City People Media Group is deeply humbling. These accolades reflect the collective effort of everyone involved in improving the built environment and serve as encouragement to continue striving for excellence.
Leadership seems central to your life. How has that shaped your approach?
Oh for me, leadership is fundamentally about service. Through roles in my Club, Lagos Ikoyi Lions Club as Past President of the Club and District 404 A3 Global Service Team Coordinator, it became clear that leading with empathy and commitment creates meaningful change.
This philosophy also inspired the founding of my pet project ‘the Child Boy Foundation’, an initiative dedicated to mentoring, supporting and empowering the boy child.
You are also an entrepreneur. How do you balance public service and business?
It hasn’t been that easy. But balancing both has been rewarding. As Chief Executive of La Dots Particity, creativity and strategic thinking are channeled into event planning and management. Meanwhile, involvement in professional bodies like the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport ensures continuous growth and connection to professional roots.
So, looking back, what would you like your legacy to be?
The goal is to be remembered as someone who combined leadership, service, and excellence. As someone who inspired others to contribute meaningfully to their communities while pursuing their passions. Whether through urban planning, community service, or entrepreneurship, the aim has always been to leave a positive, lasting impact.
