Family Appeals to Governor Soludo for Protection Amid Estate Developer’s Alleged Harassment.
The Okwesi family of Awkuzu in Anambra State’s Oyi Local Government Area has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo for intervention, alleging that a real estate developer, Bishop Onyeka Nzekwe, is using security operatives to intimidate and harass them on their own property.
According to Chief Charles Okwesi, chairman of the Okwesi family, Nzekwe has repeatedly deployed security agents, including the military and police, to disrupt their peaceful occupation of the land. Okwesi claims that these incidents have resulted in injuries, arrests, and detentions.
The family alleges that Nzekwe’s actions are backed by a certain Mr. Oliver Okeke, and that the State Ministry of Lands has also been involved, sending Civil Defence personnel to the disputed land.
However, the Civil Defence team leader claimed they were acting on behalf of the Ministry of Lands, not the State Command.
The Okwesi family disputes the Ministry’s involvement in arbitrating land disputes, accusing Nzekwe of attempting to illegally seize their ancestral land. Nzekwe had previously denied using thugs and security operatives to intimidate the family, describing himself as a non-violent individual.
