Anthony Village Diamond Lions Club Installs Lion Ruth Abure as 6th Club President.
In a remarkable celebration of service and compassion, Lion Ruth Obehi Abure was recently installed officially as the 6th President of the Anthony Village Diamond Lions Club. The event, held under the distinguished chairmanship of Lion Sam Obasi brought together senior Lions, esteemed guests, and a community dedicated to making a positive impact.
In her acceptance speech, President Abure expressed her deep gratitude to the Almighty, the International Association of Lions Clubs, and the Anthony Village Diamond Lions Club for entrusting her with the responsibility to serve as Club President for the Lions Year 2023/2024. She acknowledged the unwavering support of her family, the Abure’s, and highlighted their role in making her service to humanity possible.
Lion Abure’s journey in Lionism, spanning 17 years since her early days as a LEO in UNIBEN LEO CLUB, reflects a profound commitment to humanitarian service. As a Brand Strategist, she emphasized the challenge of balancing work and Lions Club commitments but found immense satisfaction and joy in bringing hope and smiles to the less privileged.
She outlined impactful projects approved by the Board of Directors, including the renovation of the Female Hostel at the School of the Blind in Oshodi, sinking a borehole at the same school, sponsoring 50 cataract surgeries, a massive Feed The Hunger project, and the installation of Zebra Crossings for 20 schools across Anthony Village Community.
Despite the daunting tasks ahead, Lion Abure expressed confidence that, with generous donations, the Club would achieve their goals and assured transparency in utilizing the funds. She invited and appealed to guests to sponsor specific activities and donate towards the projects, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts.
In his Goodwill Message, the pioneer District Governor, Lion Shakiru Adeniyi Balogun, extended his warm congratulations to President Abure and also emphasized the importance of community-centric projects and urged President Abure to focus on the Lions’ 8 global causes. He stressed in his statement that the club should also look at the role of youths in community development, also he highlighted the direct impact her efforts would have on the International President’s membership goal of 1.5 million Lions.
The District Governor assured full support for President Abure’s initiatives. “ I urge you Lion Ruth Abure to focus on membership satisfaction, growth, and club excellence. I will encourage you to lay the foundation for growth and progress in your club and this will have a great impact on the District and also in nation building”.
As Lion Ruth Abure assumes her role as the President of Anthony Village Diamond Lions Club, the community eagerly anticipates a year filled with kindness, impactful projects, and the collective effort of individuals dedicated to making a difference.
Acknowledging the support received, Lion Abure thanked God, District Governor, senior Lions, her club, and her family. Special appreciation was extended to Lion Sam Obasi , the Chairman of the occasion, and Lion Tolulope Sebanjo the Father of the day. The Guest Speaker, Lion Austin Onono, was not left out of the accolades as he was lauded ‘a role model with a well-reserved exemplary lifestyle.’
In a closing remark, the newly installed president, reiterated the Club’s commitment to serving with a heart of service , and she called on everyone to donate generously to support the impactful projects.
