Lion Matthew Agbuna is the club president of Lagos Esteem Lions Club, District 404B2 Nigeria, also the CEO of Aremmat Solutions Limited. In this interview with Brandmatters Magazine Editorial, Agbuna, a humanitarian per excellence and a stirring boss speaks about his leadership style, community engagement role of solar energy in the future amongst other salient issues.

As a club president of Lagos Esteem Lions Club, can you describe your leadership style and how it has influenced the direction of our association in general?

As the president of Lagos Esteem Lions Club, my leadership style is a blend of transformational and servant leadership. This approach focuses on inspiring and motivating members, while prioritizing their needs and the community’s well-being. The transformational leadership is about vision and inspiration. So, I believe in setting a clear, compelling vision for our club that aligns with the broader goals of Lions Clubs International. Also, by articulating a shared vision, I aim to inspire and energize members to work towards common goals with enthusiasm and commitment.

My leadership style therefore has helped steer Lagos Esteem Lions Club towards a path of growth, innovation, and enhanced community service, ensuring that we continue to fulfill our mission of serving those in need while fostering a strong, vibrant club community.

How has your club under your presidency engaged with the community through the various service activities and projects, and what impact have these projects had on the community?

Under my presidency, Lagos Esteem Lions Club has significantly increased its engagement with the community through a variety of impactful service activities and projects. Our focus has been on addressing pressing needs, promoting sustainable development, and fostering a sense of unity and support within the community. Here are some key initiatives and the impacts -the club organised free medical campaign providing health check-ups, vaccinations, and consultations. These campaigns focused on underserved areas where access to healthcare is limited;

We also collaborated with local optometrists to conduct vision screenings and distributed eyeglasses to those in need, especially school children and the elderly; Scholarships and School Supplies was also part of our consideration areas. So, we renovated classrooms and essential school supplies to students from low-income families from a public school, helping them continue their education without financial burden. During the course of the Lions Service Year, we established a mentorship programme, where some club members offered career guidance, tutoring, and personal development workshops for students at the youth male correctional centre.

Environmental awareness and sustainability were also one of the community activities we did. We planted tree and imbibed the clean-up initiative to enable us keep our community clean and free from flirty environment. This has contributed to a greener and cleaner environment, promoting sustainability and encouraging community members to take an active role in environmental conservation.

Through these initiatives, Lagos Esteem Lions Club has made a tangible difference in the lives of community members, demonstrating our commitment to service and our mission to improve the quality of life for all. To me that is support and solidarity.

What strategies have you employed to establish Lion’s brand and promote Lions International’s vision & mission within the community?

As a club we have been able to consistently establish Lion’s brand through our various community impacts. We also share our success stories via social media platforms, as we also make use of the local media to sell our association brand. We frequently assess our community impact because this approach will help us serve them better, thereby promoting the vision and mission of Lions International.

The transition to renewable energy sources will accelerate, driven by environmental concerns, technological advancements, and supportive regulatory frameworks. Yes, there are opportunities in this sector.

I see that solar energy becoming more prevalent across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors due to decreasing costs and increasing efficiency.

Enhanced grid integration technologies will allow solar power to be seamlessly incorporated into national grids, improving stability and reliability. Ongoing research and development will continue to boost the efficiency of solar panels, making them more cost-effective and efficient.

There will be a shift towards greener manufacturing processes, further reducing the carbon footprint of solar energy production.
