Despite the economic disintegration in the country, some spirit-filled Nigerians still believe in giving back to the society be it in cash, kind and any other ways they can reach out to the needy. We donated some bags of Rice, Garri, Cartons of Indomin, Salt, Vegetable Oil and some cooking seasonings,” Abure said.
Responding to the media on what informed these gestures in this hard time where the economy isn’t smiling, the president stated that Lions are selfless humanitarians regardless of religion, ethnicity and background, so putting smiles on the faces of the needy give Lions great satisfaction because according to her, Lions are selfless Loving Individuals Offering Needed Services to humanity without any gain. “The hope and smiles of the needy is paramount to us. As difficult as the economy appears and knowing that hunger relief is part of our global causes, then it is essential for us to key into it.” She asserted.
Lion Abure advised the state government to continuously do its best in ensuring lives and property of the citizenries are protected “In alleviating poverty, government of the day should create more avenue for agricultural development, when the government focus more on the aagricultural sector it will help reduce the level of poverty in the country.”
In addition, she informed that other community service activities embarked upon since July 1st 2023 that she took over mantle of leadership are the youth empowerment programme; free eye testing and screening; free diabetes testing and screening, donation of reading and writing materials to schools; creating campaign and public awareness on childhood cancer amongst others she noted. “Lions are volunteers who believe in rendering selfless service to community development and by God’s grace my legacy is rendering selfless service in whatever capacity I can and in whichever circumstances I found myself, and I will keep serving humanity by reaching out to those in need”, Abure submitted.
Also speaking at the event is the Zone Chairperson, Lion Funke Orimolade, she appreciated the kindhearted effort put together by the club to feed the indigene of Anthony Village. She noted that one of her roles as the zone chairperson is to ensure that clubs under her watch carry out the hunger relief activity, which is one of the key activities of the Lions International.
